Optimum Communications
Development Ltd specialises in the art and science of communicating
with varied audiences. Over the past two years, the company has focused on
researching and developing new methods to make information easier for the
public to absorb.
Optimum’s unique research into the English used everyday throughout
Britain is the basis for its Everyday English Editor. This new software service
makes it quick and simple to tailor information so that it is easier for everyone
to understand
The Everyday English Editor has been adopted by the ABI (Association of British
Insurers) Raising Standards group. It is now used by ABI member companies
via the Raising Standards website.
Founded in 1987, Optimum initially provided consultancy and writing services
to IT companies including Lucent, Microsoft and Hewlett-Packard. It also completed
projects for the Central Office of Information and the Department of Trade
and Industry.
During the 1990s, Optimum marketed an innovative, computer-based speed reading
system. As part of this project, it researched and wrote articles on the physical
and cognitive processes of reading. This knowledge underpins its recent work
on editing tools and communication training courses.
